HowCold Rolled Stainless Steel Coil Made?
- Step 1, Melting and Casting: Raw materials such as iron ore, chromium, and nickel are heated in an electric arc furnace (EAF) to approximately 1,500°C (2,732°F) and melted into liquid stainless steel. The molten steel is then cast into billets for further processing.
- Step 2, Hot rolling: The billet is reheated to approximately 1,200°C (2,192°F) and passed through a series of rollers, gradually reducing its thickness to form long, thin sheets. These sheets are rolled into hot-rolled coils.
- Step 3,Pickling and Cold Rolling: Hot rolled coils are pickled to remove surface oxides and impurities. The coils are then cold rolled at room temperature to further reduce thickness, enhance strength, and improve surface finish.
- Step 4, Annealing and pickling: Depending on the end application, cold-rolled coils may undergo annealing to improve ductility and eliminate residual stress. This is followed by a second pickling process to clean the surface and enhance corrosion resistance.
